York Festival of Ideas | The Next Chapter | 11-24 June 2022

A York-focused event which may be of particular interest to all those Indie Business owners and those with a keen entrepreneurial spirit takes place on Friday 24th June:  

Building York’s Entrepreneurial Culture, Friday 24 June, 1.30pm to 5.45pm (in person)

To celebrate the first anniversary of the Good Business Charter, and the launch of Enterprise Works and the York Accelerator, we showcase how the city of York is forming a coalition with innovative partners to respond positively to the levelling up agenda.

Discover how York is creating a new approach to supporting entrepreneurs, driving inclusive economic growth and tackling the impact of COVID-19. Speakers include Kay Wilks, Director of Strategy Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Henri Murrison, CEO, Northern Powerhouse and Julian Richer, entrepreneur and founder of the Good Business Charter.

This event is divided into three sessions. You are welcome to attend as few or as many as you wish.

Session 1 - Levelling Up: The 12 Missions, 1.30pm to 2.45pm

Session 2 - How to be an Entrepreneur - panel discussion, 3.15pm to 4.15pm

Session 3 - How to be a York Entrepreneur, 4.45pm to 5.45pm

From climate change to economic instability and inequality, the route from cocoa bean to bar and our indulgence in chocolate is fraught with challenges and controversies. Join our panel for a lively online discussion and learn more about the people, communities and supply chains all working to explore the full potential of chocolate.

Sustainable Fashion and Social Media Marketing, Tuesday 21 June, 1pm to 2pm (online)

Digital marketing expert Elina Ketikidi explains how social media can be used to educate consumers about sustainable fashion and sustainable living more generally.

CITIZENS: Why the key to fixing everything is all of us, Wednesday 22 June, 6pm to 7.30pm (in person)

Join author, activist and strategist Jon Alexander in conversation with York resident and leading community power advocate Sophia Parker, as they discuss the power we all have to create a better world.

Career and Family: Women’s century-long journey toward equity, Wednesday 22 June, 8pm to 9pm (online)

Renowned economic historian Claudia Goldin traces women’s journey to close the gender wage gap and sheds new light on the continued struggle to achieve equity between couples at home.
