MY MOVEMENT STORY

I was a bookish child who increasingly felt that sports & movement was not for me. I was ashamed of my flat feet, painful toes and congenitally clunky hips. I now know through experience and practice that meaningful improvements are possible. I hike for miles without tiring, cycle around, play energetic Taiko drumming, weight train and am practising for my first adult handstand! My formal movement learning came from:-The Foot Collective(TFC),a group of physiotherapists & podiatrists who have developed evidence-based training to build better balance, mobility & strength through the feet, ankles, knees, hips and beyond. I am hoping to become fully certified as a TFC Guide during 2026.-Feldenkrais London, with whom I qualified as a Feldenkrais practitioner in 2018.This is a somatic sensory method that uses proprioceptive feedback as your guide &strengthens mind-muscle connections for developing more graceful and skilful movement co-ordination. It is inward, gentle and very beneficial for self-regulation.

Smooth Moves Lab

“Smooth Moves Lab is me - Julie. This name for my movement practice suggests that we are all the guinea pig in our own laboratory & with guidance can find our own optimum unique path through curiosity, trial and error. Smooth, fluid movements are what I strive for as a marker of ease, quality and efficiency.”
