Impact Intent

Breathing instructor and coach for overwhelmed women and purpose-led teams

I’m Joanne, founder of Impact Intent, based in York. I teach Breath-Body-Mind® (BBM), a blend of gentle breathing, movement and mindfulness practices, to purpose-led organisations, teams and women who want to feel calmer, steadier and better able to handle everyday life.

My background is in marketing, communications and people development. Over the years I’ve seen how much people give to work they care about, and how easily their own needs slip down the list. I want people who make a difference to have the capacity to look after themselves too.

I came to BBM through working with a local organisation, and it has made a real difference to my own life. My sleep, focus and patience have all improved, and I find anxiety easier to manage.

BBM was developed by two psychiatrists, Dr Gerbarg and Dr Brown, who designed it to be gentle, evidence-based and adaptable for almost everyone. Something I love about BBM is it can bring a sense of relief in the moment, while also providing practical techniques to use in everyday life, so stress feels more manageable and wellbeing improves over time.

My courses are designed around real life. People get time to learn and practise, then guided audios, videos, and follow-up support help them keep going between sessions, whether that’s using a technique in the midst of a busy workday or as a way to unwind at home.

I have a particular interest in working with charities, social enterprises, healthcare and education teams. Alongside Impact Intent, I also run BBM courses for unpaid carers in and around York. For women wanting to explore their strengths and direction, I offer coaching and CliftonStrengths.
