House of The Trembling Madness

Beautiful independent pub in a Georgian mansion

The House of the Trembling Madness was bought by husband and wife Richard and Amanda Monaghan with business partner Andrew Lowson in May 2024.

The name is a nod to the old term for delirium tremens, the severe withdrawal symptoms experienced by heavy drinkers, when ale was consumed due to risky water sources - hence “Trembling Madness.”  There is also a Delirium beer, which you can enjoy at the pub!

14 Lendal is a stunning example of Georgian architecture, built in 1714 as part of the early expansion of York’s ‘new’ style of building. Commissioned by Henry Baines, twice Lord Mayor of York, it stands near the iconic Mansion House.

“Our drinks menu includes a huge selection of 19 draft beers, 50 types of spirits & the most delicious wines. Our new food menu features dangerously good KILLER SANDWICHES, along with stews made to fill you till you drop, a deadly kids menu to keep the little ones quiet and roasties that slash your hunger. We’re famous for our selection of beers - they’re the best in the world. We pick ones we love, ones we think you’ll love and some we think will surprise us all.”
