High-end streetwear label designed in the city
Run by the designer and owners, Year Dot is all about showcasing a brand that has built up from the early days of screen-printing at home to filling what is now a fully-fledged store. The logo adorning the shop windows has become the brand's best seller from the menswear hoodies (made from either 100% loopback cotton or a fleecy polycotton mix),T-shirt and headwear ranges, also popular with women who like the clean and crisp design.
With some fans mistaking the brand for a Japanese streetwear line, there's an unmistakable 'house' vibe that's attached to the name, and they've also collaborated with Calypso York through store DJ sessions. Designer Richard Kitching favours uniqueness over the mass-produced trends which is why it's great to have his own boutique: it allows him to test new ranges in-store before launching full collections online.
“We get a lot of people coming in, looking around and asking where the brand's from. When we tell them we own it and design everything here they're pleasantly surprised to see us in-store selling it ourselves, which is fantastic for us.”
