Teddy Bear Tea Room
Teddies galore and time for tea
Sat: 9.30 – 17.30
Sun: 11.00 – 16.00
Outside a building on Stonegate that’s pushing 700 years old, a huge Charlie Bear is ready to welcome you into the emporium for all things teddy bear. Astonishingly, we’re told some of the foundations were sourced from a ship that crashed in the Ouse. But more on the teddy bears – downstairs is a stuffed toy delight for people who love stuffed toys, and those who never knew they could like stuffed toys as much. Brands include Steiff (‘the Armani of bears’), old favourite Jellycats, famous for the range of animals, and the traditional Merrythought bears.
Time it well, and you could extend the teddy bear experience into lunchtime as they have an amazing themed menu in the characterful tearooms up the stairs. Everything is as homemade as possible, suppliers include Appleton’s butchers and the Tea People – chosen for their ethical philosophy and family business heritage.
“Not many people realise that we are a family-run business: my mum has worked in the shop since 2007 and I now run the tearooms with my partner.”
