Hand-made gourmet burgers, irresistible cocktails, local beer and masterclasses
Fri and Sat: 9:00 – 00:00
Housed in what was the Army and Navy store, Sutlers is about anything but austerity with a range of 16 tap beers and hand pulls from favourites including Treboom, and a gin menu comprising of over 110 varieties – try Zymurgorium gin for a Parma Violet or Turkish delight garnish. While you’re enjoying one of their amazing beef burgers (topped with macaroni cheese, crispy onions and Cheddar, anyone?), don’t forget to check out the wonderful portrait of owner Richard’s grandad as a young boy – taken straight from the coronation of 1937 – upstairs on the first floor.
If you’re interested in a gin or cocktail masterclass held in the privacy of the second floor, get in touch with the staff whose knowledge, we’re told, is ‘tested every couple of weeks’…Now, here’s a fun educational fact for you: with a nod to the building’s previous life, Sutlers takes its name from those who used to follow armies and sell provisions to soldiers.
“We were going for a quirky pre-war look so a lot of the décor and furniture has been collected. Most of the stuff came from our living room so you can imagine it didn’t go down well when I was robbing the house of things!”
