A peculiar shop & curiosity museum
Sun: 12.00 – 16.00
If ever you can describe something as ‘weird’ then, chances are, it would fit nicely into Heather’s shop. And she embraces it. It’s the place to get into the spirit of things if you’re really into York’s gruesome history, especially with the moulded candles that come in skulls, ghosts, brains and baby doll heads.
If you find inspiration in the antique and vintage re-articulated animal skeletons or the taxidermy on display, sign onto one of Heather’s monthly small mammal taxidermy classes to make a rat, Guinea pigs or even a rabbit – it’s quite a skill. Don’t forget to check out the rearticulated cat with two heads (made by Heather’s husband) and the wet specimen chicken with two faces in store.
“We’d say to everyone that the place isn’t as scary as some people think…come and take a look around.”
