Owl & Monkey
Beautiful everyday homewares and craft classes
Thurs and Fri: 11.00 – 18.00
Sat: 10.00 – 17.00
For a lesson in how to fill a compact space with lots of beautiful and practical things for the home and everyday life, head to Owl and Monkey. With a strong focus on homewares, owners Matt and Helen both have backgrounds in the heritage industry, with the items for sale focused on the functional objects that make everyday tasks a joy.
There are a lot of interesting products that you wouldn’t find in many shops nearby, and stand-out products include those from German company Redecker, an old-fashioned handmade brush business set up by a blind gentleman, which make brushes for all the purposes you could think of. Then there are the bunches of organic and hand-tied flowers from York company Ducks and Daffodils that sit prettily outside the shop. We haven’t even mentioned the workshops yet – keep your eyes peeled for their creative craft courses as they regularly add to the timetable.
“We want this to be about the community and we live on the street as well. People say they love coming in and leaving with an unexpected treat wrapped up in a brown paper bag to enjoy at home.”
