Jim Poyner Photography
Portrait, wedding and commercial photographer
It was a love of photography that resulted in Jim Poyner, who was taught by his uncle as a youngster, having his own dark room at the age of 12 and developing his teachers’ holiday snaps for money. The rest is history, and Jim now specialises in portrait and wedding photography, alongside commercial commissions for organisations including Rafi’s Spicebox, Aesthetica Magazine and York College.
With every project, Jim’s aim is to consistently hit the mark to the client’s brief as well as try something new every time to broaden their repertoire in addition to his own. As comfortable working a crowd at an event to bring out the best in people as he is working to a tight brief for a new client, he is keen to lend that extra expertise to add a bit of flair to every job.
“To me, it’s important to give a very light touch – I don’t want the client’s experience to be anything other than, “Oh, that didn’t take as long as I expected and, bloody hell, how did he make me look like that?!” That’s generally what I’m after.”
