Show-stopping pates and fine Yorkshire produce line the shelves at this corner deli
Sun: 11.00 – 16.00
Kirk, one half of Henshelwoods Deli, spent time as head chef at Antonio Carluccio’s Neal Street restaurant in the capital, and he brought with him some top-drawer recipes to line the deli counter since taking over with wife Ali in 2005.
Just mention ‘Whitby crab pate’ or ‘chicken liver pate’ to set many mouths watering in York, and it’s one of the recipes they’ve tweaked since taking over. Impressively, their sandwich list proffers a filling for every working week of the year, and all fillings from the counter can be taken away in pots too. Don’t forget to take in all the foodie gifts stocking the shelves too.
“Some of our lovely elderly customers come in and buy one slice of ham; others buy £40 of cheese. We just like people to look around and think they’d like to try it.”
