Gulp and Graze
Energising food and drink to run on all day
Sun: 10.00 – 16.00
What had been a pipe dream for a couple of years for owner and GB pro long-distance runner Matty Hynes is now realised in the form of Micklegate café Gulp and Graze. Serving fresh, natural food for breakfast, brunch and lunch to take away and to eat in, the place is inspired by Matty’s time spent visiting other similar establishments in Paris, Berlin, Tokyo and Chicago, when racing.
Bringing the idea to York, though, means using fab produce on the doorstep such as Michael Lee Fine Cheeses, David Wilson butchers and Simon Baynes fruit and vegetables. So, what makes a champ’s breakfast? Go for the smashed avocado on toast with poached egg and Parma ham accompanied by the berried treasure smoothie– whizzed up pineapple, strawberry, apple, lime –we’ve heard it from the pro himself.
“My running has a huge influence on the menu here and the team do a great job of putting together the fresh ideas for food and drink.”
