2 Oxford Place
All the taste, no gluten
Maybe the measure of good gluten-free food is that you can’t tell that it is so. That’s the magic of breakfasts, lunches and baked goodies from this licensed Gillygate eatery. Owner Victoria Hall wanted to open a place where fellow coeliacs could eat all the foods they miss like fish and chips and pancakes without worrying about cross contamination. And if you aren’t convinced about tasty GF food, Victoria’s red velvet cake will change your mind – and she’s a published baking book author so she knows her stuff.
Here they blend all their flour mixes to their own recipe for breads baked on-site, and to be 100% GF, everything is checked before it comes into the kitchen and café so even those with the most severe coeliac disease can be sure. With an intimate garden that has views of the city walls, this is sure to become many a GF eater’s favourite haunt.
“Sometimes gluten-free food can put people off if they think it’s not going to be as tasty but we want to push the fact that it is gluten-free but it’s still good.”
