Indie York initiative launches
After months of planning and preparations, a new print map and website featuring 100 independent businesses in York will launch on April 27.
Indie York, the initiative run by York Independent Business Association (YIBA), is working to promote retail, food, drink and cultural businesses and service providers based in York.
The newly developed website and printed map will be unveiled to members during an event taking place at Bootham School in the art block on Thursday April 27. Bootham School and the York BID are supporting the project. YIBA will also hold its AGM after the launch.
As a major step in the development of the Indie York project, the map and website has grown from the initial prototype when it featured 30 members in November 2016. It now includes a further 70 businesses, taking the total to 100, and further growth has been earmarked for the project, with more members to be added later in the year.
Johnny Hayes, chairman of YIBA, said they have received positive feedback and support for the project.
“We would love to see as many members, and everyone keen to support independent businesses in York, as possible at this launch.
“On behalf of everyone at Indie York, and the businesses, I’d like to thank Bootham School and the York BID for the support they have shown us and we hope it will help give the independent business owners in York a collective voice.
“We’re looking forward to increasing the members as the project develops further this year.”
During the event, the website and maps will be presented and there will be an opportunity for business owners to ask any questions about the project before the YIBA AGM takes place.
Please do come along to the launch at Bootham School art block on Thursday April 27 at 6pm for a 6.30pm start.
