Tabanco by Ambiente hosts 5 course sherry paired dinner to celebrate Sherry Week

International Sherry Week, Monday 6th November 2023 until Sunday 12th November 2023, has been celebrated by Sherry enthusiasts from around the globe since 2014. This global community takes part in a week filled with events, including tastings and pairing dinners, hosted from Australia to the United Kingdom, all via Spain. The week aims to highlight the array of diverse sherries available and how they harmonise with different cuisines.

Tabanco By Ambiente, an independent Sherry bar and tapas restaurant in York, will be hosting a special five-course Sherry-paired dinner on Friday 10th November 2023 to celebrate. Joining them is none other than Gonzalez Byass, one of the largest and most esteemed sherry producers in the world. They will be co-hosting alongside Ambiente and Tabanco by Ambiente’s very own Sherry Knight and Sherry Educator, Rob Scott-South.

Rob’s passion for Sherry has led to him gaining Sherry Educator status after completing an exclusive course in Spain, where only a handful of people are accepted each year. Rob has integrated this prestigious training into the Ambiente Tapas Group, where he has worked as Group General Manager for over 10 years. His extensive knowledge of Sherry allows him to host Sherry and Wine training sessions with waiting staff across the five independent tapas restaurants in Yorkshire.

During the evening, their guests will get to enjoy five different sherries ranging from dry to sweet, giving an insight into the broad range of sherries available. Each Gonzalez Byass sherry has been paired with a tapas created exclusively for the evening. And each dish on our menu will highlight the tastes and nuances of the sherry that it is paired with.

You can expect to see dishes that highlight seasonal ingredients as well as authentic Spanish dishes that highlight the nuances of each sherry.

Matching sherry with food extends far beyond its traditional connection where it was typically served with a tapa in a bar. A sweet Pedro Ximenez compliments desserts, while a refreshing Fino can enhance the flavours of seafood. Sherry's adaptability is what makes it an excellent choice for pairing with meals, as it offers various categories to suit every type of dish.

Guests can expect an unforgettable evening that pays homage to the art of Sherry pairing and showcases the unparalleled craftsmanship of Gonzalez Byass Sherries, all within the inviting ambiance of Tabanco By Ambiente.
